Patience

We had the fun of taking the children to the Children’s Science Museum last week. We wouldn’t have traveled that far just to do that, but since we we going close by we decided to make a Field Trip out of it.

It is a GREAT place to take children!!!! All hands on things like getting to operate a child’s size crane, loading blocks on to a conveyer belt, playing in the bubble pool making monstrous bubbles, running through an enlarged ant hill etc.

Loraine and Wayne and Jaden and I stayed at the water spot about half the time! They had little aprons on to keep them from getting wet. (Do you think that was successful? You’re right , Wayne was soaked till we pulled him away from there!) At this particular spot they spent their time putting ping-pong balls in tubes of water that ran them though a passageway and out another spout. Great fun!!!!

On one of the walls I read this quote though I can’t recall the author, “There are many things one can learn from children, like how much patience you have, for instance.”

I’m finding that the more children I have the more I fight against getting impatient. I remember my co-teacher in MI saying that she never thought she had an anger problem until she taught school. Somehow being with children day in and day out can bring out the worst in ya . . .

And so in this new year of 2007, I have one main goal. And that is to let Jesus’ patience come out through me . . . cause I certainly don’t have it on my own. I’ve proved that way too much this past year!

“But let patience have her perfect work . . . “ James1:4a

I remember before we had kids talking to someone about how marriage brings out the worst in you sometimes, and he laughed and said “Well, just wait until you have kids. Then you’ll really find out all the things you need to work on!” Well said indeed… :)

Whew, I’m glad I’m not the only that struggles with such things!

You just wrote my thoughts. Jon and I were reading it together and I told him, “That is just how I have been feeling!” Like Otto Koning said “I am a good missionary except for the people!” …. “I am a good mother except for my children!” Yes indeed, mothering does show up a lot of things that need purifying.
    God be with you………

Amen, let us all pray together. It’s a sad day when you feel sorry for your own dear children.

One thing I have learned is when you pray for patience..You had better be ready, cuz all sorts of stuff comes around that really tries it to the limit. :)

I didn’t say I was praying for it. I already am failing|lacking, so I think there is plenty of areas in my life right now to teach me patience with out God heaping more on. When I pray to let His patience come through my life, I just want to pass these “tests” that he’s given me that I’ve been failing. If that makes sense . . .

Yea it makes sense. I was just making a statement of what happens when I have prayed for patience in the past.

Your children will someday be grateful to you. One of my fondest memories is going to Science Museums when we took a vacation (which wasn’t often). Sometimes the things that I remember most were the things that required the most patience from my parents. I’m just remembering that I was going to e-mail you our story sometimes, and I don’t remember whether or not I did? That’s another thing about being a mom–somehow, you just get kind of forgetful. At least there’s something to blame it on!!
