Doorposts and Thankfulness

My bathroom closet door is getting full . . . full of white pages with black print or black and white pictures muted with grey. On these pages are poems, verses or quotes that have touched me in an impact sort of way in the last two years.

I have not always appreciated that closet door . . . staring at it many times a day as I’d make my numerous trips to the john . . . just a blank space. Now there’s always some uplifting message my eyes can read, my mind be brought back to or someone to pray for (We have a list of our church family there with a paper clip to slide down so one can remember who you prayed for last.) I praise God for my closet door wall in front of me that supplies the “blank” space for me to tape my papers too! Why didn’t I praise Him for it before I found a use for it?

We also have a door between our living and dining room to enter into the garage. This door has an oval glass window . . . . which would be nice if it were the front door maybe, but the garage door? . . . to see all the stuff that gets put out there? Anyway the people who lived here before :) us had a venation blind on the back side screwed fast, and it still is there of that I’m glad, but I always thought it looked “funny”. Did I praise the Lord for that and give thanks that I had a goofy door in my house? No, I didn’t think to do that, it was just part of the way the house was and the owners were trying to save money and got it from an old house or something and it fit the need for a door so there it was put.

Recently the cobwebs and dust that were collecting between the blind and the glass oval window bugged me enough to get at them and I took down the blind and gave it a good scrub in the tub and washed the window. God put the idea in my head to use a black dry erase marker and write a Scripture verse on the glass, which I did and now I praise the Lord for that goofy door!!! I can wipe the writing off and put up another verse if I like or whatever! I especially like this for the fact that I like to write God’s Word on the “door posts” of our house and this is a place GOD PLANNED FOR ME TO DO JUST THAT!

“And you shall write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 11″20

“In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning YOU.” I Thessalonians 5:18

Your posts are always so refreshing to me, Aimee! Maybe because I know you’re someone I can relate to, with lots of little children…anyway, this one especially encouraged me to do more of “writing on the doors of my house”. I do it a little, but should do more. And also this encouraged me to be more thankful for the seemingly insignificant “sore spots” in our lives–and houses. –Thanks! God Bless You!

I just saw something this evening that reminded me of this post: Happy people don’t HAVE the best of everything. They MAKE the best of everything.

We were just reading those verses lately and I was wondering how to apply them. Thanks for the inspiration! By the way, I am starting to do research on sergers because John said I could get one for my birthday and he’d have no idea where to start. Being married to a sewing machine salesman, I welcome any input you might have! My top priority in a serger is that it be simple.

Those are some great ideas! I love it… it makes me inspired to think of some ways to implement that in my house. One thing I have in our teeny, tiny master bath, is a flip calendar (from Val and Krystal) for praying for the family. I hung it directly in front of the toilet and since that also doubles as my ’safety retreat’, it’s easy to pray when I’m reminded. We need to be taken on a ‘tour’ of your house. :) You could do one room at a time, showing the little things you do to make it work for your family, ect. I’m sure it would be very inspiring! You don’t have to clean up to show us either- :) -

    You are so creative!

I am a strong believer in keeping God’s Word in my face, whenever and however possible.

Hey Aimee, I took a piece of wood, painted it black, and painted a verse on it to hang above our family calendar in the kitchen. Every time I look at it, I am reminded not to use our family time on petty things!!! I loved your creative idea! Have a great weekend :)

Thanks for your input, Kristi! That’s neat.

Yes, Aunt Doris Jean, I KNOW you are! Praise the Lord!

Yeah, I like Krystal’s calendar too!

I don’t know a thing about sergers (though I do have one), Elaine . . . I’ll email you our phone number and you can give Japheth a call if you like. Hope you can find what suits you!

Blessings to ya, Sharon . . . that is a special compliment especially coming from you . . .I’ve always had a high esteem for you ;)

    Blessings, Everyone!
