Doorposts and Thankfulness
Monday, February 5th, 2007My bathroom closet door is getting full . . . full of white pages with black print or black and white pictures muted with grey. On these pages are poems, verses or quotes that have touched me in an impact sort of way in the last two years.
I have not always appreciated that closet door . . . staring at it many times a day as I’d make my numerous trips to the john . . . just a blank space. Now there’s always some uplifting message my eyes can read, my mind be brought back to or someone to pray for (We have a list of our church family there with a paper clip to slide down so one can remember who you prayed for last.) I praise God for my closet door wall in front of me that supplies the “blank” space for me to tape my papers too! Why didn’t I praise Him for it before I found a use for it?
We also have a door between our living and dining room to enter into the garage. This door has an oval glass window . . . . which would be nice if it were the front door maybe, but the garage door? . . . to see all the stuff that gets put out there? Anyway the people who lived here before
us had a venation blind on the back side screwed fast, and it still is there of that I’m glad, but I always thought it looked “funny”. Did I praise the Lord for that and give thanks that I had a goofy door in my house? No, I didn’t think to do that, it was just part of the way the house was and the owners were trying to save money and got it from an old house or something and it fit the need for a door so there it was put.
Recently the cobwebs and dust that were collecting between the blind and the glass oval window bugged me enough to get at them and I took down the blind and gave it a good scrub in the tub and washed the window. God put the idea in my head to use a black dry erase marker and write a Scripture verse on the glass, which I did and now I praise the Lord for that goofy door!!! I can wipe the writing off and put up another verse if I like or whatever! I especially like this for the fact that I like to write God’s Word on the “door posts” of our house and this is a place GOD PLANNED FOR ME TO DO JUST THAT!
“And you shall write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 11″20
“In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning YOU.” I Thessalonians 5:18
