Cream Cheese Roll
This is one of my favorite treats!!! . . . though it’s been a year or two since I made it! (Edited to add, yes I just made it again yesterday . . . If you’re on a diet, you can do like I did and give most of it away,(otherwise I’m tempted to pig out!) but you still get a taste and can even save a few servings for the freezer) You might want to give it a try . . .
Cream Cheese Roll
Combine in saucepan: 1 cup sour cream, 1\2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup butter and 1 tsp. salt. Cook over lot heat stirring constantly until well blended. Cool.
In a mixing bowl, dissolve 2 pkgs active dry yeast in 1\2 cup warm water. Add sour cream mixture and 2 eggs beaten; mix well. Gradually stir in 4 cups all purpose flour (Dough will be very soft) Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Next day, combine filling ingredients – 2 pkgs. cream cheese softened, 3\4 cup sugar, 1 egg beaten, 2 tsp vanilla extract, and 1\8 tsp salt, mix until blended well.
Turn dough onto floured board; Knead 5-6 times. Divide into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a 12″x8″ rectangle. Spread 1\4 of the filling on each to within 1 inch of the edges. Roll up jelly-roll style from long side; pinch seams and ends to seal. Place seam side down on greased baking sheet. Cut 6 x’s on top of loaves. Cover -n- let rise until nearly doubled, about 1 hour. Bake @ 375 for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown
It does call for a glaze and sliced almonds, but I think it’s rich enough that I don’t bother with the extra sugar . . . The almonds would be delectable, but I never have them on hand

I have some plain yogurt going bad in my fridge, hmmmm i could use it instead of sour cream and make this yummy sounding roll!
I enjoy reading your blog…it’s encouraging to see you work with your children.
BTW, I live down the road from Michelle. Oh and don’t tell her I’m making the cream cheese roll! She knows I’m on a diet and only supposed to have sweets on Sundays! LOL

I agree this recipe is a keeper. One time I took some to the Dr. office when they squeezed me in an already over busy schedule. My child wasn’t really sick but needed a physical for some teeth surgery. Then I met the receptionist in Walmart and she ordered some for their Christmas party. I like to spread a layer of jam as thin as I can over the cream cheese filling and one time I tried apple pie filling. The apple pie filling was a waste but raspberry jam is good.
Your encouragement to post has me considering…but I won’t promise. I don’t do well with writing but I COULD TRY. I like my children to try things they think they don’t like or arent good at so…we’ll see.
God Bless You and your day.

Yeah, somehow it’s harder to do the things we tell our children to do
than for us to tell them
. . . I’m speaking from experience here!!! like – You don’t have to get so frustrated at ______. You used to do the same thing when you were his age.
That variation sounds good, Cheryl!!! . . . though most often (I know I’m weird) I like it “plain” . . . like I don’t care for different flavors of chips, just the good ole original!!! . . . and ice cream, vanilla is my favorite!!! My dear husband teases me in saying , “Yeah, and that’s why you married me
I’m just a plain old guy” But He’s the greatest . . . I’m still deeply in love with him!!!! God ordained for us to be together!!!
Linda . . . I’m trying to figure out which Michelle . . . I guess your talking about my twin in PA, right? Thanks for being “brave” and showing up on here
Blessings!

Well, I don’t know for sure if you’re twins but but yeah she’s from PA. Michelle Fisher. I met you a time or two like maybe at FB or somewhere only my name wasn’t Stoltzfus then!
I was a Hostetler. I don’t know if I actually ever talked to you and introduced myself. I’m good at that…figuring out who other people are but staying in the woodwork myself.
