“Veilings” of God

Monday, December 18th, 2006

Quoting from LeRoy again,

“Scripture records many of the “veilings” of God. Let us note several examples. God appeared in Angel\human form to Abraham (Genesis 18) Abraham talked and related to God as to a fellow man. God veiled Himself with human form. The most Holy Place (God’s room) in the Tabernacle was veiled. It was illuminated with the very presence of God. When man (the High Priest) entered into the Holy of Holies, he needed to burn insense to “cloud” the glory of God lest he would die. That room was veiled and the High Priest’s eyes were “veiled” to sheild them from the “glory of God.

When Jesus was born, Mary was told to call Him ‘Emmanuel’ God with us. Jesus was truly God. If Jesus would not have been veiled in human flesh, man would have died in His presence! The veil, His flesh (Hebrews 10:20) spared man in His presence and was the ‘tool’ that enabled Him to die and provide eternal life for us! Jesus, after the resurrection , ascended back to heaven. Revelation chapter one gives us a glimpse of the totally unveilded Jesus again!

Jesus said it was good that He would go back to the Father (John16:6-15). Jesus did go back so that He might send the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit being truly God needed to be veiled. Therefore God planned that the Church would veil Himself, the Holy Spirit! (I Corinthians 3:16,17) The Church is made up of people who are redeemed and as individuals we “veil” God the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 6:19,20).

‘Nevertheless I tell you the truth, it is expedient for you that I go away;
for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you;
but if I depart I will send Him unto you.’ John 16:7

‘What? Know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body?
For two saith He, shall be one flesh.
But he that is joined to the Lord is one spirit. I Corinthians 6:16,17

‘What know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost?
Which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price;
Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit,
which are God’s. I Corinthians 6:19,20

The glory of God has been veiled, to some degree, ever since sin entered the human race. Glory on earth totally and constantly unveiled loses its glory and becomes common place and even a curse. In the Old Testament and in creation, glory is constantly fading (IICorinthians 3). In the New Testament, however, God has made provision for an everlasting glory! The indwelling, veiled Holy Spirit is the key to an ever increasing experience of glory for the believer! (II Corinthians 3:18)

‘But we all,
with an open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord,
are changed into the same image
from glory to glory,
even as by the Spirit of the Lord.’ II Corinthians 3:18

The Bible says ‘In the beginning God created . . .’ (Genesis1:1) He also said, ‘Let us make man . . . (Genesis 1:26). The Scripture further says, ‘Male and female created He them.’ (Genesis 1:27). They were ‘created in His own image’. They were glory within and glory without! Within was the glory of God as they were created sinless and in His image. Without they were clothed in light (glory). The glory of man and woman differ according to their designated and assigned roles. The glory of man is expressed by his unveiled head as he assumes his role under Christ. The glory of the woman is expressed in her veilded head assuming her role under man.

In First Corinthians eleven fifteen it indicates that the woman’s hair is given to her for her glory. If she cuts her hair she removes her divinely designed ‘glory’, and if she doesn’t veil her hair the ‘glory” will fade. Therefore, the woman should be veiled. Her glory (hair) shall be reserved for display (unveiling) for her husband.

The Jewish practice of the veiled woman includes some interesting insights. The Jewish girl\woman would veil herself in public and in the presence of men including her bethrothed husband. When the bethrothed husband came to get his wife for the marriage feast she would remain veiled until she went unto her Bridegroom into the bed chamber for the final consummation of the marriage at which time she removed her veil for her husband.

The Church is the bride ( Ephesians 5:22-32) and Christ is the Bridegroom. We, the bride, are betrothed to the Bridegroom. The Church is “veiling” God. God dwells within the body, the Church. She, the Church, shall continue to “veil” God until Jesus returns and we shall join Him in the great marriage supper of the Lamb (!) and at that time the Bride (Church) will remove Her veil and enter into an eternal ‘glory’ relationship with the Bridegroom!

Until then, ‘Let her be veiled’.” – LeRoy Yoder

This is what we discussed and more at the girls dorm. Thank-you, LeRoy for sharing this writing with us!

Other Questions

Why did God clothe Adam and Eve after they had sinned and were put out of the Garden of Eden? After all it was only husband and wife and God there . . . What died there that day? Adam and Eve were still there with their hearts beating.

“God is light and in him dwelleth no darkness at all” I John 1:5b LeRoy Yoder (of SMBI) says, “Adam and Eve, before sin, were probably clothed in or with light. In glory there will be no need for any light except for God himself who is light. Adam and Eve, in the garden before sin, were in “glory” totally uncovered (unveiled) before God and each other. Since the coming of sin the glory of God must always be veiled to some degree so that man will not die! Sinful man, face to face with a holy, unveiled God would die!”

Glory Veiled

“But if a woman have long hair it is a glory to her;” I Corinthians 11:15a

So here we are told that her long hair is a glory . . .

” For her hair is given her for a covering” 15b

And that her hair is given to her for a covering . . . yet you look this word up in the Strongs Concordance and it is has a different meaning than the meaning of the word cover in verses 4,6 and 7. So our long hair is not taking the place of what God intends us to use to cover our glory.

“But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth (to speak with inspiration) with her head uncovered (unveiled) dishonoreth her head; for that is even all one as if she were shaven. For if a woman be not covered (or veiled) let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven (shaved), let her be covered (or veiled).” I Cor. 11:5,6

Is it a shame to have your hair shaved off? My niece that had surgery to remove the tumor by her brain had a large portion of her hair shaved, My sister tries to hide it by letting her hair hang down instead of putting it in a pony tail like she always did before. And it works (I think though not having seen it) because the part the doctors shaved off was not the top of her head but lower at the back\bottom of her scalp. Why would she want to hide it?

The Bible says in other words (Does it not?) that if it is a shame to have your hair shaved then it might as well be cut.

I find it interesting that the ladies that have worn a veil and later stop wearing this symbol after a while will cut their hair.

I have many friends here at Kitchi who have not “grown up” with this practice but have chosen,shall we say way\practice, of applying this Scripture.

Delight testifies of such a feeling of peace filling her heart completely when she put on her veil. Fear had been prevalent in her life, and now she worries not, she RESTS in God’s care.

For Bonnie, she says she couldn’t get away from the phrase “to have power on her head because of the angels”

What does that mystical verse mean? “For this cause ought a woman to have power on her head because of the angels.”

Question for ya

God is True!

We as people made in His image are instructed in the Old Testament,

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” Ex. 20:16

We are not to lie.

God is Light!

– “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all” I John1:5

“And this is the condemnation that light is come into the world,

and men loveth darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil.

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light,

neither cometh to the light lest his deeds be reproved.

But he that doeth truth cometh to the light,

that his deeds may be manifest,

that they were wrought in God.” John 3:18-21

Our life IS an open book before God . . . Let us walk in the light!

God is Love!

. . .”For God so loved the world . . “

A new commandment I give unto you,

That ye love one another;

as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” John 13:34

God being love calls us to love . . .

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15

“He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings.” John 14:24a

What a test, huh?

“But I say unto you,

Love your enemies,

bless them which curse you,

Do good to them which despitefully use you,

and persecute you.” Matthew 5:44

How can a person go to war and kill when these are Jesus’ words? . . .unless he does not fear God.

God is Just!

“ . . . A just God and a Saviour; there is none else beside me.” Isaiah, 45:21b

“A false balance is an abomination to the Lord,

but a just weight is His delight.” Proverbs 11:1

“But the path of the just is as a shining light,

that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. Proverbs 4:18

God is Holy!

“ . . . They rest not day and night saying,

‘Holy, holy,holy, Lord God Almighty,

Which was, and is and is to come.” Rev. 4:18

“. . . Yet now hath He reconciled, in the body of His flesh through death,

to present you holy

and unblamable

and unreprovable

in His sight.” Colossians 1:21B-22

God says this is our “reasonable service”

Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore brethren,

by the mercies of God

that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice,

holy,

acceptable unto God,

which is your reasonable service.”

God is full of Glory!

“And behold the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloud.” Exodus 16:10b

“Glory and honour are in His presence;

strength and gladness are in His place.” I Chronicles 16:27

. . .yet He veils it. God dwells in our bodies. Our bodies “veil” the Holy Spirit. Does this principle of God insist that we “veil” our glory? What is our glory?

“It is the glory of the Lord to conceal a thing;

but the honor of kings is to search it out.” Proverbs 25:2
